She spent her formative years in Port Colborne on Lake
Erie, in Ontario where she first developed her love of nature
and interest in drawing.
Her more formal career began with courses from the Ontario
College of Art, weaving instruction from Robert Cawood ( the
Village Weaver), and many photography excursions. Over time
she honed these skills through painting abstract watercolours,
weaving tapestry, and taking artistic photographs while
travelling; all of which could be accomplished in some small
measure while developing a successful and rewarding career in
teaching.
She takes advantage of the many opportunities to take
workshops from well-known painters, all of whom have enhanced
and revitalized her approach to expressing her view of the
world around her.
Her approach varies depending on her subject matter and
mood. Plein Aire excursions result in expressionistic
interpretations using either watercolour or acrylic where
colour placement and choice results in a vibration
representing nature’s life force.
Her excitement with living things is demonstrated through
her abstractions of creatures. Using stamps created
specifically to enhance the creature’s energy, she overlays
and washes in order to express the creature’s essence.
As well, she uses this same stamping technique to create
abstracts which encourage the viewer to discern its meaning
and delve into its nooks and crannies. The eye dances
throughout, alighting here and there in sheer delight.
Nature is her muse. She expresses the beauty, the
integration of all life, and the complex, exciting and
mysterious interplay of light, dark, colour, texture, and
shape, clearly evident in every glimpse of our world. She
shares her unique view of this world through her paintings,
weavings, and photography.
Enjoy!
